Look for love in all the right places – the Calgary Folk Music Festival's 10th annual Block Heater returns Valentine's day weekend, February 14–15, powered by ATB. Sway with your sweetie under the starlight as we welcome artists from near and far. There's a show for everyone: whether you're a diehard folk music fanatic, a psych-rock buff, a neo-soul enthusiast or just looking to get down and have a good time, Block Heater will light up your life this winter.

Groove to music makers and earth shakers from near and far. Block Heater is Calgary's answer to the winter blues with a dynamic festival lineup across downtown venues. You’ll be over the moon and singing amongst the stars with our sizzling lineup. 2025 artist-in-residence: Sarah Slaughter

Introducing our 2025 artist-in-residence, Sarah Slaughter! Sarah is a Canadian visual artist whose practice reflects her wide-open perspective and respect for multidisciplinary creation. Her work spans painting, printmaking, sculpture, installation, and design. Driven by a passion for travel and learning, she explores the world to connect with people and their spaces. Each piece is crafted with a thoughtful process, drawing inspiration from human stories and the textures of everyday life.

Past Festivals

Block Heater is a vibrant, nomadic music festival which has been housed in Inglewood, the East Village and downtown at indoor venues and Olympic Plaza. It has evolved into a significant mid-February oasis that defrosts the winter blues with an inspiring and diverse line-up. Block Heater has welcomed many marquee artists, including:
