The Point. was birthed from after school garage jams between a couple of friends with some serious musical lineage. Both Jack Montesinos and Joe Roddy came from musical families and even before meeting in middle school were already earning their chops in blues and jazz joints in Austin. As their friendship grew, so did the number of hours spent in one or the other’s garage, their meandering, explorative jam sound already taking shape. Even while dipping their toes into producing beats for local hip-hop artists, they were absorbing sounds from across the globe. The addition of drummer Nico Léophonte sealed the deal. Rhythms with nods to reggae bubble under the surface of the music, as do textures and tones that reference East Asian tunings, improvisational riffing informed by American jazz and an undoubted appreciation of bands such as the Grateful Dead or Phish, all showcasing the undeniable musicianship of each member of the group. The Point.’s music welcomes listeners to not just come along for the ride but dive in and join them on their globetrotting adventure.
