Meredith Moon

Toronto, ON

You know the expression “we need to address the elephant in the room?” In Meredith Moon’s case, it’s her father, legendary Canadian singer-songwriter Gordon Lightfoot. Since Moon is also a folk musician, the fact that she is Gord’s daughter comes with a trunk full of expectations. No worries. Talent runs in the family. In fact, Moon has her own style - including a video of her playing an old-timey banjo tune, a solo instrumental in the Appalachian clawhammer style, existing in a different galaxy than her late father’s musical world. But wait, there’s more. She’s a multi-instrumentalist, adding finger-style guitar, piano, lap dulcimer and other instruments into the mix, all to enhance her inspired lyrical storytelling. Moon has earned a stellar reputation for her unique non-traditional folk-punk-inspired approach to traditional music, as well as for her flair as a singer-songwriter. She has taken a low-key approach to her career, carving a path on her own terms. It has been a slow burn, growing steadily over a dozen dues-paying years as she crisscrossed Canada, starting as a busker and moving onto international tours. Moon has two albums under her belt, with her latest release Constellations nominated for a 2024 Canadian Folk Music Award.
