Possessed of a lilting and tender voice that directly counters her nonlinear, idiosyncratic songwriting style, New York singer-songwriter Allegra Krieger defies facile definition and characterization. Over her four full-length releases since 2020, Krieger has shown a deft touch creating a distinct style that counters the gentle invitation of her voice and melody against idiosyncratic composition and unpredictable instrumental arrangements that aurally spin from subtle and sublime harmony to space shaking dissonance. In 2023, Krieger released two full-length albums, I Keep My Feet On The Fragile Plan, and its companion cassette release Fragile Plane: B-Sides, each teeming with an abrupt intimacy. Both are deliberately spare in their arrangements, giving them a feeling of being comfortably crowded into the smallest of rooms, the former using space to create proximity, while the former leans into boiler room indie rock.
